Greetings

Dear honorable members of Korean Society of Echocardiography! Hello?
The greeting words ‘Hello’ sound pretty new in this season of time. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, there have been huge changes we have never experienced before, and we have to obey the social distancing and daily prevention of epidemics that are restricting all the activities we are accustomed to so far. Now, we are gradually adapting ourselves to the restriction though. The new culture and transformation have started already, and we should adapt ourselves to the environment suitable for the post-Corona era.
I am deeply honored to serve the society as the President of Korean Society of Echocardiography in this difficult time. I am greeting you once again while feeling great responsibility.

I was very much worried about how to hold the autumn symposium held in last November in the on-offline method. Even though it was an academic place for sharing the latest knowledge and research achievements through various programs, personally, I was sad that I could not meet with our members face-to-face.
Since its foundation in 1993, this society currently in the most active youth period, has been developed into one of the societies with the most members of relevant societies. The international status of this society(KSE) has been a lot raised, so the mutually-cooperative exchange relationships are maintained/developed with many societies of echocardiography such as ASE, ESE, and JSE. I believe that such growth and development have been achieved by hard work and effort of many honorable professors and excellent senior & junior members.

Dear honorable members of Korean Society of Echocardiography!
We should build up the culture in the successful post-Corona era requesting changes to us. I believe that our society could develop and make a new leap if all the members try hard together by gathering their wisdom and power. I will also do my best for the development of our society by helping many directors including the current director Kang, Deok-Hyeon. Once again, I like to express my deep respect and gratitude to the members who are dedicating themselves to the development of society while they are busy with treatment and academic/research activities. Especially, I wish you all the good health and development.

The 6th KSE Symposium & the 42nd KSE Workshop(Aug. 22nd, Millennium Hilton, Seoul)

On last August 22nd, to commemorate the retirement of Prof. Son, Dae-Won of Seoul National University College of Medicine, the 7th Symposium & the 42nd KSE Workshop was held in Millennium Hilton. Despite the limited number of attendees due to the spread of the Corona Virus, many professors and members in the whole nation attended this event.
The first session of the KSE Symposium was carried out under the theme of valvular heart disease. There were presentations and heated discussions of machine learning related to valvular heart disease and interesting two cases.
The second session was composed of a special lecture by Prof. Son, Dae-Won, under the title ‘Once upon a time… and dreaming for the future’. This special lecture under various themes was provided by the professor’s unique slow-speaking tone, but trenchant sharpness. All the online & offline attendees carefully listened to every part of the lecture owing to the smoothly-transmitted internet. After the lecture ended, there was a moment to celebrate with all the members by presenting a flower bouquet to the professor. Everyone felt sad about the professor’s retirement who worked as a pillar of Korean Society of Echocardiography for last decades. They also wished the professor the great happiness in the future.

The 49th Autumn Symposium of Korean Society of Echocardiography(November 21st~November 22nd, Grand Walkerhill, Seoul)

For two days from November 21st to November 22nd 2020, the KSE 2020 was held in Grand Walkerhill Seoul. Due to the COVID 19, the symposium was held in the untact method, so it was hard to directly feel the excitement as it used to be. However, it was a chance to have more expansive approaches through online. When I attended this online symposium, I was able to more easily approach various themes in many rooms with a single click just as a remote control for TV presented the freedom of channel choice to viewers. It seemed to be making up for the frustration caused by few opportunities to have face-to-face exchanges. Personally, I was able to listen to the most presentations in this year, so I remember this symposium as the one with many new strengths. The schedule of this symposium included Director Kang, Deok-Hyeon’s introduction of experiences in NEJM and circulation publishing to young researchers, and the introduction of researches published in many well-known journals this year by Song, Jae-Gwan, Lee, Seung-Pyo, Seo, Ji-Won, and Kim, So-Ri, which could replace the empty seats of great foreign scholars. Also, on top of sharing the intervention experiences of structural heart disease such as TAVR and mitra clip, the amyloidosis-related presentations grabbed lots of attention due to the recent use of treatment medicine. I deeply thank the speakers who gasped for breath in a N95 mask while presenting in front of a camera, and the executives and many members who worked hard to hold this new type of symposium for their hard work and service.
