Greetings

Dear the members of Korea Society of Echocardiography who are leading the medical development.

I am Duk-Hyun Kang, President of KSE and Chairman of Executive Board for the next two years from 2020.
As I start a term in this global pandemic of COVID-19, I realize how significant it is to manage our society healthily. The safety of all members is the most important value in our society. I hope everyone will overcome this crisis well.
Our society, established in 1993, has developed into a large academic society that has more than 2,000 members thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of our members and executives. As we make efforts not only for external growth but also for internal sustainability in academic activities, we can keep up with echocardiography societies in the US, Europe and Japan. We will make The 49th Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography held in November 21 to 22, 2020 at Grand Walkerhill Seoul the venue where the latest knowledge and academic accomplishments are shared by preparing various programs such as Symposiums and scientific sessions. However, for the safety of the conference, we have to limit the number of participants. Therefore, we are preparing online conferences for those who can’t join in person. Since the scope of our society’s activities is not limited to cardiac imaging but includes the treatments and studies of various heart diseases, including structural heart disease, we will expand the spectrum of the conference accordingly.
The members of our society have been contributing greatly to the development of cardiology around the world through outstanding research achievements. We will introduce our society’s global status and research capabilities by presenting important clinical research results that have contributed to the cardiology development at the main session of The 49th Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography. We will actively support young members' participations and presentations in overseas societies to help them grow to be world-class researchers. We will also support the growth of the academic society by revitalizing the training of residents, fellows, and local clinic medical doctors.
We fully understand the reality that sonographers in various fields are contributing to treatments and research by assisting echocardiography. We will make efforts to develop and maintain the excellent quality level of echocardiography. We will continue to support community gatherings through academic workshops, academic activities of research institutes, and branches. In order for our society to make a leap forward, it is critical for our Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (JCVI) to become an international academic magazine. Your enthusiastic support and interest are far more important than any of the others to achieve this goal.
I ask for your active participation and support to overcome the crisis and develop our society.
Thank you.

2020 Annual Spring Scientific Conference of the KSC in Conjunction with KSIC, KSE, and KSLA

July 3~4, 2020, Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO), Gyeongju

Our KSC couldn’t avert the global pandemic of COVID-19, so we faced an unprecedented incident that our annual spring scientific conference held in every April had to be postponed. Eventually, it had been decided that the conference would be held on July 3 to 4, 2020, but from one to two weeks before the conference, there was the surge of COVID-19 cases in Gwangju.
Despite the tense atmosphere, we have held a safe and successful conference thanks to tremendous efforts of our members. Our society tried hard to minimize the possibility of spreading infections by sending questionnaire forms to participants via SMS in advance, by checking all the participants’ health status at the entrance, and by distributing masks and disinfectant at the venue.
Many speakers including me came to the venue and gave meaningful lectures in this difficult time. Some lecturers who couldn’t attend the conference in person due to unavoidable circumstances videotaped lectures beforehand, so all the programs prepared by the society were processed smoothly, which was very impressive. I believe the successful hosting of this spring conference in this difficult time will be an important foundation for future conferences to meet our members’ academic enthusiasm. I express my respect to all members who had heated academic discussions via on/offline, and I hope our autumn conference will be held safely and fruitfully based on this valuable experience.
