Greetings

Dear honorable members of the Korean Society of Echocardiography! How are you doing?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we had never experienced before, the whole world has been enduring the time of chaos for about three years. I would like to give a word of infinite thanks to sacrifice and hard work of our members who put the best effort for the development of medical world through education and research or front-line medical field in charge of national health in this difficult time.

Nowadays, we are finally about to see the end of despair and pain. We still have an everlasting hope in which the freezing-cold winter will make way for the spring filled with the vitality of sprouts before long. Welcoming the spring of 2022, the hope seems to be more precious.

Now, it is time to have the courage to talk about hopes. I believe that the confidence in eventually overcoming any pain and despair will be fully delivered to our neighbors as strong healing energy, and will be sublimated into more solid group energy. This is the reason why we need to pay more careful attention to each individual member with a fresh mindset.

Once again, I would like to give a word of thanks and encouragement to our members who have silently tried their best in their positions.

For the development of the Korean Society of Echocardiography that is newly valuable in the vitality of this spring, I look forward to having continuous interest and efforts from all the members including the president and chief director.

In addition, I wish every member the great health and families filled with love and happiness.

Thank you.

March 2022

the Vice-President of the Korean Society of Echocardiography

New Year Congratulatory Ceremony of the Korean Society of Echocardiography 2022 / Kim Ji-Hyun, Dongguk University Medical School

I guess a lot of members who received a mail from the society for asking about their intention to attend the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony in January, probably had a doubt about ‘if this face-to-face event would be really held’. Due to the aftereffect of the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony was not held in 2021. Even though the world was affected again by Omicron from the end of last year, thanks to the strong executive ability of chief director, the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony was successfully held face-to-face on the scheduled date.

The event was scheduled at 6PM of Monday which reminded me of Murphy’s Law for no reason. Contrary to my concerns about the possibility of having a bad weather or being late, I think all the attendees probably had Sally’s Law on that day. I expected to have a freezing day at the beginning of the year, but it was such a warm and fine day. Unusually, the out-patient service was closed at 5 o’clock with no delays. Contrary to my worries about traffic jam, it took the shortest time for me to move from Ilsan to Seoul Station. When I arrived at the venue a bit early, the venue was already filled with many members including Prof. Choi Kyeong-Hun and Prof. Kim Gi-Sik who came a long way to attend the event.

As an official event, the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony that was emceed by Prof. Kim Dae-Hee, the Director of General Affairs, was composed of greetings and expressions of gratitude to many partners helpful for the society by President Hong Gyeong-Sun and Chief Director Kang Deok-Hyeon, and some words of blessing and toast by Prof. Jeong Nam-Sik who arrived at the venue from Sinchon within 20 minutes. And then, we took some group photos. Even though we had to keep wearing a mask even in front of the camera, the members who could not attend the event may feel the happiness on that day from their smiles in the photos. In the New Year Congratulatory Ceremonies before the COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to share greetings and a glass of wine or beverage with many senior & junior professors during the reception period. But this reception period was omitted to obey the anti-epidemic measures this year. Despite the transparent acrylic partitions installed in each seat, all the attendees probably felt the delightful and warm air in this face-to-face event after a long time. Once again, I sincerely pray for the end of this pandemic shortly, so much more members could attend and share some words of blessing and warmth in the New Year Congratulatory Ceremony next year.
